Basic Note Editing

Creating Notes
  • Click/Tap: Click or tap anywhere in the note editor to create a new note at that position
  • Grid Snapping: By default, notes snap to the grid when placed. Hold Shift while clicking to disable grid snapping for precise placement
  • Note Duration: New notes are created with a duration matching the current grid size, or the duration of the last selected note if one exists
Editing Notes
  • Move Notes: Click and drag a note to move it horizontally (time) or vertically (pitch)
  • Resize Notes: Drag the left or right edge of a note to change its start time or duration
  • Change Pitch: Drag a note vertically to change its pitch, or use arrow keys (see Keyboard Shortcuts section)
  • Delete Notes: Select notes and press Delete or Backspace
Note Properties

Each note has three main properties:

  • Pitch: The musical note (MIDI note number)
  • Timestamp: The start time in beats
  • Velocity: The note velocity (0.0 to 1.0), which affects the note’s intensity

Note Selection
Single Selection
  • Click on a note to select it
  • Clicking on an empty area deselects all notes
Multi-Selection
  • Ctrl/Cmd + Click: Add individual notes to the selection
  • Shift + Click: Add a range of notes to the selection
  • Select All: Use the keyboard shortcut (typically Ctrl/Cmd + A)
Area Selection
  • Alt + Drag (or Ctrl/Cmd + Drag): Draw a selection rectangle to select multiple notes at once
  • All notes that are entirely within the selection rectangle will be selected
  • Useful for selecting groups of notes quickly
Smart Selection

The following selection features help you work with notes that share common properties:

  • Select Same Pitch: Select all notes with the same pitch as the currently selected note(s)
  • Select Same Length: Select all notes with the same duration as the currently selected note(s)
  • Select Same Velocity: Select all notes with the same velocity as the currently selected note(s)
